OK it is June. One would look at the calendar and think "hm, June, a fairly uneventful, no holiday month. Well that hasn't been the case for us.
of June 3-4 we went camping in Pisgah
Nat Forest. Same place we go every October with friends. Well, we went by ourselves this weekend. It started out not so good when we got there and it was dark and raining. We began setting up the tent in the drizzle. Flashlights in hand, reading wet pages of directions "...attach pole A1 to pole A and attach pole B2 to pole 5....." OK we got into that for about a half hour. Then Mr "I am so important" Forest Ranger guy comes up in his truck. He was the type that you could tell wanted to be a cop, couldn't hack it and decided on Forest Ranger with a superiority complex. He asked for our ID's, how long we were staying and if we had any weapons. Steve had a knife for protection and rope cutting. He told him that. The Ranger asked if he had any weapons in his pockets. He didnt but the Ranger insisted on patting him down to check. Then he asked if we had any alcohol. Steve said yes he had beer in the cooler. The ranger made him take it out and then pour it out. THEN he gave Steve a $100.00 TICKET for having it. So needless to say, Steve was not a happy camper...pun intended. OK next day was very nice. We went for a short hike, hung out by the campfire, read, napped, ate. Wewent to bed after having a relaxing day. THEN!......we were woken up at 3:45m by sounds near the tent. The sounds went on for a few minutes and then stopped. A couple of minutes later we heard a SNAP and lots of comotion at the truck. The cooler was being thrown around in the back of the truck. The dry box was also being assaulted in the back of the truck. After some time the cooler was lifted out of the truck and thrown to the ground. More comotion. At about 5:00am the noises stopped. We half slept until 7:30ish and when we got up there was total destruction next to the truck. A BEAR had ripped open the top of the cover over the bed of the truck and had eaten everything from the cooler and dry box. This was not a novice bear either I can tell you. He didn't care about fruit. He didn't care about bread. He opened a jar of cheese sauce for nachos and ate it. The jar and the lid were unharmed but seperated. The bear knows how to open jars!!! He ate hot dogs, cheese, steak, beef jerky, butter, milk, and turkey pepperoni. He did not eat cabbage, uncooked bacon, fruit, crystal light, bread, hot dog buns or salsa. Picky picky! (see pics on photo page)
The next weekend we went to Steves moms house. On the way up we passed a church that was having a fireworks celebration and we stopped and watched from the side of the road. An unexpected detour from our drive. It was fun! We took the grill and grilled out shish-ka-bobs. They were yummy. We watched some movies. The Cronicles of Narnia, War of the Worlds, Robots and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. We also went for a ride to find a Bed and Breakfast but we could not find it. It was a quiet restful weekend. Sleepy sleepy!
This weekend coming up we are taking a load of Adrianes furniture and stuff to Fayetteville to live in Lesleys new spare bedroom for three years while Adriane trapses around Korea. Since they just moved into a new house, Lesley and Dan (probably more Lesley than Dan) are going to have a party. So we will unload stuff Sat and have a party Sat evening. Fun fun!
Then the following weekend I will be leaving for Oregon and wont be back until July 8. Hopefully I will get some knitting done while I am there. I am trying to make a smaller bacg now and will probably line it with fabric to make it a bit stronger than my Zeeby's bag.
I have only gone once tot he knitting club thing. I want to go some more, but I have just been so busy. It almost sounds like I have some sort of a life....huh. Maybe that is why I am so tired!!!
